1st July 2022

In school this week

Despite the disappointing start to the week when the weather spoiled our plans for Sports Day, we have managed to go ahead with all the other outdoor activities and learning for the rest of the week. The Year 2 children represented the school beautifully on Tuesday and Wednesday when they went to the May Balfour Garden to serve the community by tidying, cleaning and planting bulbs in the park on Institute road. We have had so many positive comments about their attitude, behaviour and perseverance to complete the tasks.

On Sunday, it was lovely to see so many of our Sandygate red jumpers at All Saints for Sandygate Sunday. Reverend Dave has written to me to say thank you to all the children who came along (with their families) to sing the 'Love is something...' song that they had been practising and say some prayers they had written about refugees.

With the approaching end to the academic year, our work on preparing the children across the school for the changes that are ahead of them has continued this week. In their classes,  PSHE lessons have allowed the children to explore change, ask questions and understand that change can be a good thing.  Many of the Year 2 children visited Holy Trinity school on Thursday, spending time in some of the classrooms and meeting the Little Marlow children who will be starting there in September too. On the return, the chat was all about the new friends that they had made.

Next week, the end of year activities start in earnest and we aim to communicate as much as we can to parents/carers in a timely manner.  The vast majority of the information you need is held in this Newsletter, so I do encourage you to read the contents carefully and make note of any information that is useful to you.

Year 12 Borlase Music Students

On Thursday a group of Yr12 A Level music students from Sir William Borlase Grammar School visited the school and gave an assembly. They gave performances on piano, guitar, trombone and vocals of varied genres from musical theatre to classical.

They showed the children how a trombone works and held a Q&A session for our pupils to ask any questions they had about the instruments they were playing and the music they had listened to.

Many thanks to the students for coming in to share their love of music with our pupils.

Next Week's 'Learning at a Glance'

Transition Morning Tuesday 5th July

Next Tuesday, children across Buckinghamshire will be visiting the schools they will be moving to in September.

At Marlow C of E Infant School most of our Year 2 children will be visiting their new schools. If your child is moving to Holy Trinity then they should come in to school as normal and then our staff will walk them down to Holy Trinity after registration and then return with them before lunch. If your child is not moving to Holy Trinity and will not be visiting their new school on Tuesday then they should come in to school as normal, and then they will be staying in Year 2 to help the new 'Year 2s' with their transition morning, showing them around the Year 2 classrooms.

Children in Year 1 and Reception will move up to spend the morning in the classroom that they will be going to in September.

The children will bring home a slip at the end of the day to let you know which class they will be moving to in September.

Open Afternoon 6th July 4-6pm

The Open Afternoon is a chance for your family to come in to see the school building and grounds in a very relaxed, social way. The children in Years 1 & R will have spent the previous morning in the classroom they are moving to in September, and so they can show that to you.

You will be able to see some of the work the children have done this half term which will be displayed in classrooms and communal areas. You do not have to stay for the whole time, but we would appreciate the children being their for their year group or club performance. It is a relaxed event and families can come and go as suits them and their other commitments, but we would love for you to stay and see all the year groups give their performances.

Each year group is working on a short performance, a dance or a song, which they will give during the afternoon and the Maypole and Recorder club will also perform. These will be on the school field (weather permitting) apart from Recorder club. Timings for these are:

  • 4.30 Recorder Club (in hall)
  • 4.45 Reception
  • 5.00 Year 1
  • 5.15 Maypole
  • 5.30 Year 2

The PFA are selling pizzas, which must be pre-ordered on Parentpay, so you can even have your tea whilst you are here. These will be delivered to the field at around 5pm They will also be selling drinks and sweets

Please note that Cookery club and Multisports are not running on this day.

Children do not need to wear their school uniform but Year 1 and 2 staff have asked if the children could come to Open Evening in bright coloured clothes for their performance.

Reception Act of Service Thursday 7th July

On Thursday, children in Reception will be undertaking their Act of Service at All Saints church. They will be walking down after registration and spending the morning in the churchyard litter picking and tidying it up before walking back to school.

Thank you to the parents who have offered to come and help with this walk, you should come in with your child on Thursday.

Leaver's Service Tuesday 19th July

On the last day of term we will be holding our Leaver's Service at 9am. The Service is planned to take place outside and is our opportunity to celebrate the learning journey our Year 2 children have been on and say goodbye to them.

Year 2 parents are invited to join us for this service. If you are able to come then we would ask that you sign up on Eventbrite so that we can ensure we know how many are coming and also sign you in quickly on the 19th.
