What a wet and windy week it has been! Yesterday in school worship we were learning about the value of Perseverance and how Noah persevered to build the Ark. It seems that there has been so much rain over the last week an Ark would have been useful to keep us dry.

Despite all the rain the children have still managed to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air and today, for example, the Year 1 children were outside for their English lesson, retelling the story of Lost and Found using actions.

Unfortunately, Odelle the Guide Dog was unable to visit us for school worship on Wednesday as planned. There was a problem with the van that was bringing her. Hopefully, we will be able to reschedule this soon.

Next week, we will have our first class led worship of the year. I am looking forward to seeing what Grasshopper class will share with us about the value of respect. Speaking of Grasshopper class, there is a new trainee teacher working with them this term. Miss McVicar, who is doing her teacher training through the Chepping View SCITT, will be with Grasshoppers until the Easter holidays, after which, Miss Rogers will return.

Year 2 Geography Walk to the River

Monday 23rd January 

Year 2 will be walking to the river on a geography field trip. They will be studying the human and physical features during their walk from school. This will be a fun, hands-on way of bringing their classroom learning to life; exploring the differences between human-made features such as, the bridge and natural, physical features such as the river itself. We hope that parents will volunteer to walk down to the river with the children and support their learning along the way. Class-Led Worship

Reception Curriculum Information Session

Wednesday 1st February 7.00pm

This session will be a follow on from the one we held in the autumn term. It is open to all Reception parents who would like to find out more about how and what their children learn in Reception. We will be covering end of year expectations, the next phase in learning in phonics as well as giving further hints on how to support the children at home. We do need to know how many parents will be attending so that we can prepare resources. Please click here if you will be coming along.

Class Home Pages & Home Learning

The Class Home Pages on the website have now been updated with this half-term's topic overview. A reminder to everyone that the presentations from the autumn term curriculum information sessions are also there, along with the curriculum expectations for Year 1 and Year 2. You will also find some information about Metacognition and Thinking Schools which is one of the key foci for the school this year.

In addition to this, the home learning for this week will go live today (on Google Classroom) and then every Friday until the end of term.

Parent Consultations

The Spring Parent Consultations will be on Tuesday 21st (3.30-6.30pm) and Wednesday 22nd (4-7pm) February. These will be in Key Stage 1 end of school. We will open up bookings for the consultations during the week of the 23rd January.

French and Cookery Clubs

There are still some spaces available for the French and Cookery Clubs.

PFA First Aid Fundraising Event

Would you know how to react in a medical emergency (adults/children)? Learn the skills that you need in our first aid fundraising event being run by the external company Child Matters (see flyer). Wednesday 25th January at 7.15pm in the school hall. Refreshments and a first aid certificate provided. Tickets £20 available via parent pay. Limited places so please book your ticket asap to avoid disappointment. 

Fundraising update - a big THANK YOU to everyone

We would like to thank everyone for their amazing generosity and support last term. We managed to raise an incredible £14,824 and that is down to everyone's hard work, effort and support so THANK YOU. We still have a way to go towards our £27,000 target but we are well on our way!
