3rd March 2023

In school this week

We have had a very exciting week in school, with lots of enrichment activities taking place. Starting on Monday with Scooterbility and finishing off  today with 5 out of 6 classes doing embedding and developing their learning through trips or in school visits. You can see some more details below in the 'Latest News' section.

Next week we will be having some new playground equipment installed. The old balance beam is being replaced with a Trim Trail. We planned the update of the equipment prior to the pandemic and this, coupled with the shortages in materials, has meant that we have had to wait what seems like an age to see the project realised.

On Friday next week, will be our 'Wild World' morning that I mentioned last week. This is where we are looking for volunteers to help us with some tasks in the school grounds. We still need some more people, so if you are able to help, please click on the link below or contact the school office if you need any more information.

Fairtrade Fortnight

On Wednesday, our Eco Warriors led school worship and shared with the rest of the school the important messages that Fairtrade Fortnight brings. They looked at some of the different crops and products that carry the Fairtrade symbol and how climate change is affecting farmers and their crops in different parts of the world.

They encourage everyone to look out for the Fairtrade symbol and choose Fairtrade whenever we can.

Science Week - 13th-17th March - Whole school

The theme for Science Week this year is ‘Connections’ and during this week the children will be looking for connections during their science lessons and activities.

The week will start with a Science themed school worship lead by Mr Creese, our science subject lead and then throughout the week all year groups will have some specially planned lessons which vary from looking for patterns in fingerprints to learning about the field to fork journey of a vegetable.

At the end of the week we will be setting a special home learning activity which is designing a poster for us to enter into the British Science Weeks’s poster competition.

Easter Competitions

The details for the competition for each year group are shown below. We are planning to have an Easter Hat parade on the 29th at which the Year 2 children can show off their headgear to the rest of the school.

We would like the children to bring their entries in to school on Monday 27th March so that we can judge them on the 28th.

The categories are:

Reception - Easter Basket

Create an Easter basket using recycled materials and using some of the symbols of Easter that you have been learning about.

Year 1 - Easter Garden

An Easter garden is a traditional way of remembering what happened on Good Friday and usually includes a hill, as the bible says Jesus was crucified on a hilltop, three crosses, a stone to represent the stone across the entrance to the tomb. Some simple instructions for a garden are shown below.

Year 2 - Easter Hat

An Easter bonnet is any new hat worn traditionally on Easter Sunday. It is the tail end of an English tradition of wearing new clothes for Easter and is in keeping with the spirit of renewal and redemption at this time of the year.

For our Easter bonnets, we would like you to take the theme of renewal further by reusing and recycling materials for your hat.

Morning drop-off - Whole school

We would like to remind all parents to please keep your children close to you while waiting for the school to open doors in the morning. Unfortunately some children have been banging on the door and window of the bungalow, which isn't very respectful for the people who live there.
