Welcome back to the second half of the autumn term in school.
The half-term has got off to a flying start with the 'Taste of Democracy Week. This has been a highly successful way to teach the children about the British value of democracy in an age-appropriate way. There has been much discussion about the different qualities of each sweet treat and the children have been learning new vocabulary such as vote, polling station and ballot. You can read more about this in latest news below. Thank you to Mrs Joy from Marlow Council for organising this activity for us.
We are very excited to be expecting delivery of some saplings from the Woodland Trust to plant in our school grounds. We have a date in the calendar to plant them and also to do some work to get the wonderful wild areas that we have at school ready for winter. You will find details below, but it would be great to have a team of volunteers to help us with this - you don't have to come for the entire morning. As the old proverb goes - many hands make light work!

Walk to School Week & Road Safety Week – Whole school
Walk to school week is back! From Monday 20th – Friday 24th November we will be holding our first walk to school event of the year.
Walking, cycling or scooting has so many benefits from helping us to stay healthy, helping the children be ready to learn once at school, helping the environment and reducing traffic around our school and local area.
We would love as many pupils to take part as possible. We recognise that not everyone is able to complete their whole journey sustainably, but there are still ways to be involved. For example, park further away from school and then walk part of the journey.
There are lots of events happening over the week:
- We have relaunched the Living Streets Travel Tracker scheme and the children are recording how they travel to school daily. Those who regularly travel sustainably (at least 3 times per week) will receive a badge at the end of the month. This will begin next week.
- All children will be given an 'I spy sheet' to tick off things in nature that they see on their way to school.
- The Eco Warriors and Rights Respecting Schools Ambassadors will be working together on a petition for improved signs along Seymour Park Road which they will send to Marlow Town Council.
- On Tuesday 21st all the children will take part in safety day, which will include, Scootability scooter training, first aid, and, in KS1 the children will learn about looking after their bikes.
- On Friday 24th all the pupils who have made a commitment to travel sustainably through the week will receive a flapjack at the end of the day.
We hope it will be a fun week and that everyone enjoys taking part.

Reading for pleasure – Whole school
This week's recommendation comes from Sophia A and Jack in Ant Class. Their chosen book is 'Dogs don't do ballet' by Anna Kemp.
They both like the book because it is very funny. Jack said, 'It is about a dog called Biff who really likes to do ballet. I liked it when the girl fell in the trumpet'.
Sophia said, 'I like it when he was wearing a pink dress'.

Christmas Disco – Saturday 25th November
-
2pm – 3:30pm & 4pm – 5:30pm
Sales for this event have now closed. The PFA are busily preparing a fun-filled Disco for your children. As we have begun spending money on this event, we are unable to offer a refund if your child can no longer go to the disco. We will be in touch with everyone over the next week with further details and to ask for volunteers to help with this event.
Christmas Mufti Day – Friday 24th November
The PFA are delighted to invite your children to come to school on Friday, 24th November in mufti. In return, we are asking for donations of Mince Pies or Gifts (suitable to be made into a raffle hamper prize e.g. Bottles, Smellies, other gifts). The PFA organise drinks, mince pies and a raffle for the guests invited to the Big Sing, and we have the annual Sandygate Raffle which will be drawn at our Bake Sale on 15th December; in order to run these we need your help!
PFA Calendars & Photos
This week your child brought home a thumbnail and order information for our annual PFA calendars. These photo calendars are a great fundraiser for the school. They are A4 laminated and personalised with a print of your child’s photo plus all the school term dates on it, as a helpful reminder. Not only are they useful to have at home, they make great Christmas presents for family members too. You can also buy a copy of your child’s photo as a print or in digital form.
- Laminated Calendar – £4 each
- Digital JPEG of Image – £5 each
- 7x5 Colour Print – £2.50 each
Please order all items via ParentPay no later than Friday 10th November.
If you do not have the thumbmail, your child was absent on the day the photos were taken. If you would like to have a calendar made with a photo of your own, please send a high quality JPEG to pfa@marlow-infant.bucks.sch.uk and we will arrange to have one made with this instead. Please send these along with order details on the above date.
