13th May 2024

In school this week

Many apologies for the lateness of this newsletter. We experienced some technical issues with the website on Friday and the entire newsletter, which was ready to be sent, disappeared!

This does mean, however, that I am able to talk about the May Fayre today instead of waiting until Friday. It was a fabulous day and the sunny weather was the icing on the cake! I would like to say thank you to the organising team and all the other volunteers for their time in making the May Fayre such a special occasion. Thank you also to everybody who attended for their generosity in helping to raise much needed money for the school.

I am pleased to share with you that our school has been nominated for recognition for its Eco work at the Oxford Diocese Celebration of Care event in June. It is exciting to think that this work is considered exemplary and worthy of celebration!

General news & reminders

History – Year 2

Year 2 have been studying the lives of significant individuals in history this half-term. We would love to have some children's grandparents visit the school to tell us about what life was like in the past and discuss the differences they have seen.

We would like them to come tomorrow (Tuesday 14th) in the afternoon from 1.15pm-2.15pm. Please let us know here if your child's grandparent is happy to share their knowledge with us.

Library visit – Year 2

Over the next couple of weeks, Year 2 will be visiting the library.

Please bring in your library card this week.

  • Grasshopper class: Friday 17th May 10am-11am
  • Dragonfly class: Wednesday 22nd May 10am-11am

We require a few parent helpers from each class to help walk with the children. They will leave school at 9.45am and return around 11.30am.

Please let the office know if you can help.

Class photos – Whole school

Class photos are live and your log-in details were sent out on Friday. Please use these to view and order your child's class photo. The gallery will be live until Friday 17th May. If you have any questions or queries regarding your order, then please contact them directly.

Footsteps Training Programme – Year 2

On Friday, an email was sent out to parents/carers as we require parental consent for your child to take part in the Footsteps Training Programme during the school day, using roads and pavements near the school.

We still have a few children for whom we have not received parental consent. Please click here to provide consent by the 24th of May.

Pentecost – Whole school

The day of Pentecost marks fifty days since Easter Day and brings the Easter season to an end. It is a major feast of the Church’s year when Christians recall how God’s Holy Spirit was given to the disciples after Jesus’ ascension, empowering them to begin the work of making disciples of all nations.

On Tuesday 21st May, 9am-9.30am, we would like to invite families to join us by watching the service. Due to the size of the hall, we can only invite 1 parent/carer per family, and have a maximum of 100 tickets.

If you would like to join us, please click here to book your ticket.

Eliminating the idea of waste

Overconsumption and a throwaway culture have led to a global waste crisis. TerraCycle developed first-of-their kind solutions to recycle the unrecyclable: waste streams that aren’t typically curbside recyclable.

We have recently signed up to the Taylors of Harrogate programme and are collecting all brands of flexible coffee packaging, loose-leaf tea packs and bulk bags of tea bags. We have a collection point located in the entrance hall. Once collected, the coffee pouches and sachets are shredded and melted into plastic pellets that can be remoulded into new products. Any remaining coffee grounds are removed and sent for composting.

Our school will earn TerraCycle points by recycling with them. We can redeem our points in the form of a donation to the school.

Cenus Day – Whole School

Please help our school and register your child/rens school dinner on Census Day, Thursday 16th May, via SchoolGrid. Dolce have planned a special Dinosaur Themed Lunch!

Funding for universal infant free school meals (UIFSM) is determined using the average number of pupils recorded as having taken a school lunch on Census day.

The reason the school Census takes place is that the authorities can make better-informed decisions around funding for individual schools.

Marlow Infants bird box – Whole school

Exciting news – we now have baby chicks! It's hard to say how many exactly, but we have counted 5. Mummy has been busy feeding them juicy green caterpillars.

PFA news

Thank you!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us for our annual Sandygate May Fair on Saturday; what a fabulous day we had, and we were so lucky with the weather. We have had some really positive feedback from the day and hope everyone who joined us enjoyed it. Thank you as well to everyone who volunteered in some way - we are really appreciative and couldn't have done it without you...literally. And finally, thank you for all your generous donations (tombola/toys/cakes) - these donations mean we don't have to spend so much to run the day which also helps the total amount we make. THANK YOU!

The May Fair is usually one of our main fundraising events for the year (profit estimate to be announced later this week) so you are all really helping to make a difference to our lovely school through helping and supporting the PFA with these events.

Silent Auction

Thank you to those parents who have been able to contribute some incredible prizes to us for the Summer Silent Auction. We would still welcome donations. Please feel free to get in touch if you think you can help. No prize is too big or small!

Please contact Charlotte on pfa@marlow-infant.bucks.sch.uk.

Sandygate Summer Parents Ball: 22nd June 7.30pm–11.30pm

Tickets are selling well, but there is still time to join in the fun, and we'd love this event to be a great fundraising opportunity for the PFA and the school, as well as a night to remember! You are welcome to bring friends and family from outside school. The food is buffet style with fluid seating (both inside and outside), so you don't need to worry about getting a full table together, but it's a great idea to get a group of friends from your year group together to join the party.

Dates for your diary

  • End of term treats: Friday 24th May
  • Bag2School: Friday 7th June
  • Parents Summer Ball: Saturday 22nd June
  • School Camp Night: Saturday/Sunday 13-14th July
  • Happy's Circus: Sunday 22nd September
