14th June 2024

In school this week

You will all now know that we are having our SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools) next Thursday 20th June. It will be a good opportunity for us to demonstrate all the wonderful work we do as a church school.

You will see below a whole article about the transition work we are doing over the next few weeks. This started earlier in the week when we welcomed some of our new Reception children into school for the first time. It made our current Reception children look so grown up! (and as for our Year 2 children.... they will definitely be ready for Year 3 very soon!)

I am very excited to say that we will be taking part in Praise in the Park this year. This is an event that used to take place every year before the pandemic. It is a wonderful celebration in which church schools in Marlow participate. There are more details below.

We are looking forward to seeing the Marlow Infants children singing at the Regatta on Sunday - it is looking like it may be a drier day (perhaps I shouldn't have said that).

Refugee Week

Next week, the RRS Ambassadors will mark Refugee Week 2024.

Reception will make biscuits, Year 1 will decorate cakes and Year 2 will make friendship bracelets.

The RRS Ambassadors will sell the items for donations in our Eco Barn from 2pm on Friday 21st so please send in a small donation on Friday 21st so that your child/ren can choose 1 item from the sale.

Batteries

The Eco Warriors are pleased to announce that we collected over 300 batteries as a result of their Waste Week action. The batteries were collected and taken away for recycling.

Recycling batteries helps to reduce the amount of hazardous waste that ends up in landfills and other disposal sites. By safely extracting the materials and chemicals from the batteries, recycling centres can minimise the risk of pollution and protect public health.

We will continue to collect batteries, so please bring them in and add them to the box kept underneath the PFA letterbox.

Creative Week

  • Dates: 15th – 19th July

Calling all creatives! We welcome any parent/carer with a creative background to come to school and run a workshop with the children for an afternoon. Transitions

This half-term, we will be spending some time getting the children ready for their next steps in education, and we thought that it would be good to share with you some of the plans that we have to help the children prepare for moving on.

PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Economic) lessons focus on transition this half-term and children begin to learn that change can be a good thing and that moving on to another class or school is just part of their learning journey.

Class mixes

Reception to Year 1

When the Reception children move to Year 1 in September, they will be in new class groups. We take this opportunity to mix children from Ants and Bees to create 2 new classes: Butterflies and Ladybirds. This is to enable us to balance the classes using our in-depth knowledge of the children, something that we didn't have last July. Reception children and their parents will find out which class they will be in on Tuesday 2nd July.

Year 1 to Year 2

The mix of children in Year 1 will not be changed for their move to Year 2. They will find out which class they are moving to on Tuesday 2nd July.

Year 2 to Holy Trinity

Year 2 children who are going to Holy Trinity Junior School will be mixed and put into 3 class groups ready for their move. Again, we will use our in-depth knowledge of the children to make as balanced a mix as possible. Holy Trinity will then add children from other schools starting with them in September to the 3 groups. Children and parents will find out their class on Tuesday 2nd July.

Transition activities

This week, we started the first of our transition activities. On Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, the Reception children visited the Year 1 classrooms. They spent time in each of the classes so that they could meet some of the Year 1 team and familiarise themselves with the Year 1 learning environment. They have not visited their class teachers for next year nor were they in their new class groups, they simply visited Year 1.

Also, on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, the children in Year 1 visited Year 2. They visited one classroom on Tuesday and the other on Thursday. Again, this is for children to meet the Year 2 team and get used to the Year 2 classrooms, which are very different to the Year 1 learning environment.

In addition to this, on both Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, we also welcomed some of our new Reception intake to spend some time in school.

For the Year 2s, on Tuesday 18th June in the afternoon, they will be visiting Holy Trinity School (if that is where they are going to for their Key Stage 2 years). They will spend some time playing on the field, will meet the Year 3 teachers and will have the opportunity to ask them questions.

There are more activities planned over the coming weeks and there will be more details in future newsletters.

Praise in the Park

  • Date: Thursday 4th July

For the first time since the pandemic we are going to be holding, Praise in the Park. Praise in the Park is where church schools in Marlow gather together to sing and retell bible stories through dance. This year we are being joined by Holy Trinity School, Little Marlow School and Saint Peter's School. The event will be held in Higginson Park on Thursday 4th July from 1.30pm-2.30pm.

Parents, carers, grandparents are invited to join us as it's a whole community event. There will be more details next week, but in the meantime, we will need some volunteers to walk with the children to and from the event.

If anyone has a couple of spare 2-inch paintbrushes, we would kindly accept them for painting the large cable drums for use in the Year 1 outside areas.

Tissues

It's this time of the year when we go through a lot of tissues in school, and we would be most grateful for donations of tissue boxes from parents please. Thank you in advance.

Year 2 news

  • Date: Tuesday 25th June

Year 2 will be visiting the Maidenhead Synagogue on Tuesday 25th June. A letter went out today with information about the trip.

We will need a few helpers for the trip from 9am-12noon, and will also hold a briefing on Thursday 20th straight after drop-off, for about 10 mins.

The PFA AGM will take place Thursday 18th July at 7pm at school. This is a shorter meeting than usual, legally required to take place each year.

We will have drinks and snacks to celebrate our achievements over the last year and would love to see as many people as possible. We are looking for new committee members to start from next year, so please come along or talk to us if you're interested.

The events the PFA puts on are valued by everyone in the school and the money raised is really necessary for the daily running of the school as well as funding a lot of the school trips etc.

Please feel free to speak to Rachel Bourdillon, Lauren King, Caro Robinson, Mandy Rooney, Charlotte Thompson or Claire Robinson for more information.

Treat days

During the last weeks of summer term we would love to bring ice cream to school every Friday as an end of the week treat; it helps raise funds for school and is cheaper than the ice cream van!

Children who go to Teatimers on a Friday can still join in. Parents can pre-order a treat for their child on ParentPay now. Treats will be labelled and delivered to Teatimers ready for when children arrive after school.

In order to do this we need your help. Could you offer your time to help?
