In school this week

What an end to the half-term! The week has been very busy with some fantastic activities in and outside the classroom. You will be able to see details and photos in the news stories below.

It was lovely to see parents and carers in school this week for the parent consultations. Both evenings seemed to go smoothly, and the teachers enjoyed sharing their updates about the children's progress. We hope that you all found your session useful.

The children have done so well this half-term, it seems such a long time since the beginning of the school year when they were all starting in their new classes. It feels like they have been there for a lot longer, which is an indication of how well they have settled in. Everyone is, of course, exhausted now and in need of a break. I hope that you are able to have a good rest over the break and I look forward to seeing you all in just over a week's time.

General news & reminders

Recommended reads

Each week in Celebration worship this term, children share their favourite reads with the rest of the school. This week it was the turn of Dragonfly class. Their favourite book is Little Lamb by Piers Harper.

Fleur, Elliot, Macy and Calum said: We like Little Lamb because there are dragonflies and ladybirds in the story. We enjoyed the adventure of the story and the places that Little Lamb visited. We liked the bit when the lamb found its mummy.

Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal 2024

We received the traditional poppy boxes this week, so after half-term the school council and school staff will be selling the poppies and other merchandise outside school at drop-off and pick-up each morning. The suggested donation for all items is £1. We also have a small supply of metal pin badges for adults, for a donation of £3.

Parent/carer regular helpers

Thank you to those who have offered their help already and attended the training. We look forward to having you in school after half-term. All those who attended the training should have an email confirming your time to come to school. If we are applying for DBS clearance for you, you will need to wait for this to come through before you can start your regular help.

If you missed the training days and are interested in becoming a regular helper in school, we are running another training session on Friday 15th November, 9am-9.45am.

If you are interested in becoming a regular helper, please click here to read the Confidentiality Policy and here to read the Child Protection Policy. Then click here to complete the form.

Anti-Bullying Week

Anti-Bullying Week 2024 will take place in school from Monday 11th – Friday 15th November, with the theme 'Choose Respect'. Our Rights Respecting Ambassadors will be leading school worship on Tuesday 12th November to tell the rest of the school all about it. The children will be learning about friendships and who to speak to if they need help.

We will also be holding Odd Socks Day in school on Tuesday 12th November. All you need to do is wear odd socks. It's a great way to celebrate what makes us all unique in Anti-Bullying Week!

ASDA Cashpot

Parentkind – the charity that supports school PTAs - have teamed up with ASDA, who is making millions of pounds available to donate to primary schools across the UK through their ‘Cashpot for Schools’ initiative – all you have to do is, opt in through the ASDA Rewards app, choose Marlow Infants and shop and scan in store or shop online until 30th November 2024.

ASDA will donate 0.5% of the value of your shop to our Marlow Infants. Also, every time somebody opts in, ASDA will give an additional £1 to the school Cashpot. Plus, it doesn’t stop there – ASDA are also giving £50 to every school to get them started.

Christmas Disco

  • Date: Saturday 30th November 1pm-2.30pm & 3pm-4.30pm

Ho ho ho, it’s Christmas disco time! Our festive themed disco parties will be held on Saturday, 30th November and, like last year, we will run 2 identical discos to ensure there is enough space for every Sandygate child to attend. These will be 1-2.30pm and 3-4.30pm.

There will be music, fun and games, a half-time snack and a visit from Santa with a small Christmas gift to take home. Tickets are £15 per child (Sandygate students only, we're afraid) and are available to book on ParentPay.

There are a limited number of tickets per disco so we'd advise you to discuss with your child's friends which disco they're booking, to avoid disappointment. We don't want any child to miss out on this experience, so if it is financially difficult for you, please contact the school office.

Wreath making

Silent auction

We are currently working hard to put together an incredible silent auction. Hopefully you will all be able to find something to bid on to help with your Christmas shopping! Thanks to the generosity of our Sandygate parents, we already have some impressive offerings. But we would be really grateful if you or your business/employer could help donate a prize. It could be for a physical gift, an experience, tickets to an event, a voucher or service. No prize is too big or too small. The more prizes we can get the better!

The benefit to you/your business is through people accessing the online silent auction website and the extra advertising and business this may lead to. The auction tends to go beyond the reach of just our school community as we share the link on the Marlow Facebook groups.

If you have any prize you can donate, please either let your year reps know, or you can contact Cori on pfa@marlow-infant.bucks.sch.uk

Thank you so much, we really appreciate all the help you are giving us!
