In school this week

As always, the first six weeks of the new year have flown by, and looking back so much has been achieved! You only have to look at all the News Stories that we have sent out over the half-term to see just a small part of what our wonderful staff have provided for the children. Did you know that these stories are sent straight to your device if you download the School News app and search for our school? You can also get notifications when the story is sent.

Ladybird class worship yesterday was lots of fun and the children clearly showed how much they enjoyed themselves sharing what they had learned about the school value of Perseverance. Thanks go to Mrs Thirlway, Mrs Higham and Mrs Simons who prepared the children for their worship.

Our first Reception Workshop went well on Monday. Thank you to Mrs Madziwa who ran the session. We had very positive feedback about the session and I know that Mr Creese has plans for further workshops for the Reception parents, so keep an eye out for details in future newsletters.

You may know that we are looking for a Midday Supervisor to work during lunchtimes in school with our children. Our Midday Supervisors are a great team and work hard to make sure that the children enjoy their lunchtimes. Please see the article in the whole school news below for more information.

The week after the half-term break, the second set of parent consultations this academic year will be taking place. Everybody has now booked their slots and the teachers will have prepared progress reports for each child which they will share when you meet with them. You will also have the chance to look at your child's workbooks.

Wishing you a restful and enjoyable half-term.

Mrs S Reynolds

  • Dates: 10th - 14th March

Do you have a spare hour or two between 10th - 14th March? We would love to hear from you!

So far, we only have 2 volunteers. Children love seeing their parents come to school. Science Week gives them a great opportunity to become enthused about science at school. You can talk to them about anything science related!

World Book Day

  • Date: Thursday 6th March

Dressing up

As you may know, World Book Day is just around the corner. We are thrilled to celebrate this special day and encourage all children to join in the fun by dressing up as a character from a book they love.

Making the day meaningful

We kindly ask that children bring along a copy of the book featuring their chosen character, if possible. This will give them the chance to share the story behind their costume with their classmates.

Children will have the opportunity to:

  • Share who they’ve dressed up as and explain why they chose that character
  • Show their book to a friend and discuss their favourite parts

We hope this day sparks creativity, inspires a love of reading and brings stories to life in a fun and engaging way!

Thank you for your support, and we can’t wait to see the wonderful characters brought to life on World Book Day!

Safer Internet Day – Whole school

On Wednesday, we spent time thinking about how to safe online. We marked Safer Internet day in school worship where the children learned about being SMART (Safe, Meet, Accept, Reliable, Tell) when using the internet. We even created a song about what to do to stay safe. You can find out more information about the meaning behind the acronym here.

Children aged between 3 and 7 are at the beginning of their journey through life with technology. It’s through these formative years that they learn to understand what they can access online, how they can access it and how it can benefit them, so it's essential parents take an active interest in their children’s safety online. By starting conversations at a young age, children become accustomed to having them as they grow up. ChildNet has some useful resources for parents and carers. Their toolkit can be found here.

As you may be aware, we use a range of sources to teach children about online safety. National College provides us with some resources that we use in lessons, and we use the platform for training staff about online safety. They offer parents and carers who have children at Marlow Infants access to free training and updates about staying safe online. This takes the form of webinars and #WakeUpWednesday guides. There is a particularly useful webinar entitled Online Safety for parents & carers of children aged 3-7. You can access it via the web address:

https://nationalcollege.com/enrol/marlow-c-of-e-infant-school

You will need to set up an account first and then search for the webinar.

Each week the #WakeUpWednesday guides are shared on the National Online Safety Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn profiles. You can also sign up to recieve them via email or listen to them as a podcast. The guides provide expert advice on the latest platforms and online risks that parents and carers need to know about - a brand-new guide every Wednesday.

The Path of Positivity project

A message from Marlow Town Council

Marlow Town Council are pleased to invite Marlow C of E Infant School to be part of an exciting community project aimed at promoting the mental health and wellbeing of students in Marlow. This initiative will involve all schools in the area and focuses on creating positive, uplifting spaces for students and residents alike.

We have identified the footpath that connects Oak Tree Road to Trinity Court as the perfect location for this initiative. This path is regularly used by students from Marlow Infants, St. Peters, Holy Trinity, Foxes Piece, Borlase, and Great Marlow as they travel to and from school. In collaboration with Marlow Football Club, we have received their permission to transform the concrete wall alongside the path into a vibrant, inspiring mural space.

The project, called The Path of Positivity, aims to turn this once dull and uninspiring path into a place filled with positive messages, motivational quotes, and uplifting designs created by the students themselves. We hope to make this a true community effort, and we would love for your school to be a part of it.

Schools that wish to participate will receive a section of the wall, approximately three to four panels wide, to showcase their mural.

Mural designs must:

  • Use the provided colour palette (plus white and black)
  • Include a positive message that will inspire and uplift viewers
  • Feature a design that brings joy or encourages self-love and positivity

We aim to have all designs ready by the end of March, with painting taking place in April (weather permitting).

Together, we can make a real difference by uplifting and inspiring our students and creating a beautiful new walking destination for the whole community to enjoy.
