World Book Day
Dressing up
We are thrilled to celebrate this special day and encourage all children to join in the fun by dressing up as a character from a book they love.
Making the day meaningful
We kindly ask that children bring along a copy of the book featuring their chosen character, if possible. This will give them the chance to share the story behind their costume with their classmates.
Children will have the opportunity to:
- Share who they’ve dressed up as and explain why they chose that character
- Show their book to a friend and discuss their favourite parts

Cutlery
If you send in a packed lunch that requires your child to use cutlery, please include this in your child's lunch box.

Science Week
The theme for Science Week this year is 'Change & Adapt’ and during the week the children will be following this theme during their science lessons and activities.
The week will start with a Science-themed school worship led by Mrs Browning, our science subject lead, and then throughout the week all year groups will have some specially planned lessons.
We have a few parents and some Borlase students who have very kindly offered to come in and share their science knowledge with us throughout the week.
There will be more detail in next week's newsletter about what each year group will be doing.

Red Nose Day
Comic Relief supports incredible projects and organisations that are making a difference for people across the UK and around the world.
On Friday 21st March, children can come to school wearing an additional red item. This could be a red nose, red socks, red headband, red hair etc. We look forward to seeing more red than usual! In return, please donate to Comic Relief using the link below.

World Down Syndrome Day
We will be marking World Down Syndrome day in school on Friday 28th March (a week later than the official day). Earlier in the week (Wednesday), the children will be learning about Down Syndrome during school worship and on Friday 28th we are asking the children to come to school wearing bright, colourful socks that will get noticed. The idea is that people will ask them why they are wearing the socks, and they will be able to say 'I am wearing these socks to raise awareness for Down Syndrome!'
What is Down Syndrome?
- Down syndrome occurs naturally – there is no known cause.
- Down Syndrome (or Trisomy 21) is a condition in which a person has an extra chromosome.
- Most people have 23 pairs of chromosomes – 46 in total. People with Down Syndrome have an extra chromosome added to the 21st pair – 47 in total.
- Chromosomes act like an instruction manual that defines how our bodies look and how they work.
- People who have Down Syndrome usually have an intellectual disability. This is different for each person.
- Some health conditions are more common in people with Down Syndrome.
- Around 1 in every 800 babies will be born with Down Syndrome.
