In school this week

This half term, the school value in focus has been thankfulness and the children have really taken on board the benefits that being thankful can have. On Monday, in school worship, we were learning about how thankfulness can help our fears go away and the children's ideas and thoughts on this were impressive.

Next half term our focus value is service and we have lots of opportunities for the children to explore this value and what it means. This will involve taking part in acts of service and participating in the Archbishop of York Young Leaders award. This award is something all children will undertake. It aims to build leadership skills and develop character. This is the first time we have done this award and I am very excited to see the activities that the children will be undertaking to achieve the award.  We will be sharing more information in coming weeks but if you would like to read more about it, please visit this website.

Walk to School Week 16th to 20th May

May is National Walking Month, and the campaign this year is encouraging people to #Try20 – and walk for 20 minutes each day. As part of the month-long celebration, we have  Walk to School Week, which is just a few days away,  taking place 16-20 May.

As a WOW school, we know the walk to school is already very important to you, but why not take it to the next level and walk/wheel to school every day during the week of 16 May? To make it extra fun, pupils can use the free five-day activity diary to keep them engaged and motivated to travel actively to school each day.

Download the diary here

Non-Uniform Day Friday 20th May

In return for a donation for the tombola - Wine, cakes, biscuits etc children can wear their own clothes on Friday 20th May.

All donations can be placed in the barn at drop-off or pick-up for the PFA team to collect.

Reception Walk to the Woods

On Wednesday 25th May the children in Reception will be walking to Hunts Wood to complete a mini beast hunt. We will be walking from school to the top of Oak Tree Road and into the woods from there. We will be leaving school at 1pm and returning by 3pm. On this day the children should come into school in long trousers (because of nettles) and suitable footwear for walking in the woods but they should wear their school uniform top. They will also need a coat suitable for the weather on the day.

No consent form is needed for this trip as it is covered by the 'Visits to the Local Area' consent which you completed when your child started school.

We will need a number of parent helpers to join us on this walk and if you are able to help please register here https://forms.gle/5pTZhD5UaymDfT7J8

Jubilee Celebrations 27th May

We will be celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in school on the last day of term, Friday 27th May, and we have lots of fun planned for the day.

This will be a non-uniform day and we would love the children to come in wearing Red, White and Blue for the occasion. They will be taking part in lots of activities during the day and at lunchtime we will be having a street party on the school playground.

Street Party Lunch

We would like all children to book the picnic lunch from Dolce on the 27th May and this will then be laid out on tables in the playground at lunchtime for our street party. The lunch will consist - sandwiches, sausage rolls, pizza bites, potato wedges, carrot & cucumber sticks, celebration cake and fruit.

If you are unable to book the picnic lunch because of your child's allergies please email the school office and we will notify Dolce separately to ensure that alternatives are provided for your child.

If you do not have a School Grid account as your child has never had Dolce lunches please let us know as soon as possible and we can order the lunch for your child. If you have any queries about this please contact us as soon as possible.

If you had already booked lunches for the rest of this term you should have received a notification from SchoolGrid that lunches booked on 19th and 27th May have been cancelled. This is because Dolce had a Jubilee picnic lunch planned in for 19th May, which is our census day please see below, we have asked them to switch this menu with that of the 27th May.

After School Family Picnic 3 to 5pm

We would like to invite all Sandygate families to join us on the school field after school on the 27th for a Family Picnic.  This will be a lovely opportunity to come together with other families at the end of the term to celebrate the Jubilee. You will need to bring your own picnic and a rug!

General News and Reminders

Drop off and Pick Up

A couple of reminders to keep children safe at the beginning and end of the day.

In order to avoid any accidents occurring, please ensure that children stay with you when waiting to come in to school at the beginning of the day.  They should not be allowed to run off around the car park at the front of school or on the field.

At pick-up at the front of school please come right into the school car park so that the member of staff bringing out your child's class can see you. If parents are waiting right at the gate onto the main road then staff cannot see you and they will not release your child until they can.

Wanted - Cardboard Tubes

Year 1 and Year 2 both have art projects coming up this term for which they need cardboard tubes - toilet rolls, kitchen towel rolls, wrapping paper etc - please bring them in to school next week.
