On Friday 10th June 10 schools in Marlow joined together for an Eco Day of Action which they hope will have a big impact in the town. 

At the Marlow Eco-Schools conference, held at Marlow C of E Infant School on 9th March, the Eco representatives from the 10 schools discussed how they could mark World Environment Day and let the people of Marlow know that they care about our environment.

From the ideas discussed they have come up with a plan for their Eco Day of Action which all the schools followed for the day. 

• children at all the schools will wear green for the day
• children will travel to school sustainably - walking, scooting, cycling 
• children will take part in litter picks across Marlow
• all the schools have committed to try to use no electricity for the duration of the school day

During the day children at Marlow C of E Infant School adapted their lessons to work without lights - so no screens or lights - many lessons moved outside to make use of the daylight. As a measure of how much less electricity we used - on Eco Day at Marlow C of E Infant School we used 17 kwh and on the following Monday we used 49 kwh. All of the children also took part in litter-picking during the day, we have a regular litter picking group 'Tidy up Team' who go out every week on a Monday lunchtime and litter pick in the roads immediately around our school. 

At Foxes Piece School the  pupils across the school had eco-themed  music lessons during the day, adapting the well known Queen song 'We Will Rock You' to a Reduce, Reuse Recyle song.  They had great fun chair drumming along in true Queen fashion! They also planted 'bee-stops' for the new wildlife area they are developing which their whole school community has been involved in with three Ground Force Days involving parents, governors staff and pupils. Some of the bee stops planted on the Day of Action included sunflowers which were planted by the Ukrainian children who have joined the school recently.

At Little Marlow the children had their lessons in the dark including some eco-friendly maths with natural resources. They also had RE lessons in the prayer garden where they thought about what they are thankful for in our world and they also looked at the work of landscape artist Andrew Goldsworthy and created their own land art

 At Burford School the children all got into the spirit by dressing in green for the day. Their Eco Warriors held a special assembly (with no lights on) to announce that they have just been awarded a Green Flag by Eco Schools. This means that there are now 3 schools in Marlow who have a Green Flag with several others going through the application process.
