Outside Learning
Whole School Outside learning: 11th-15th September
All of our classes have now had an outdoor learning session with Little Muddy Me, and they have really enjoyed their time. There were science investigations taking place, art lessons and exploring the Wild World with safety and respect in mind. This half-term every year group will focus on a different topic:
- Reception will be exploring the world around them by using all their senses, and will learn about being accepting and positive about people’s differences. They will explore the allotment, dig it over, pull up weeds, and talk about the types of vegetables that can be grown over the winter. They will go on a bug hunt and look closely at the bugs in trays. Looking at different leaves and plants and talking about differences will also be the focus. Towards the end of the half term, the children will also be learning about the different ways to build a fire and even cook and prepare a simple snack over a fire.
- Year 1 will be learning about autumn and will cover science, art and design & technology objectives. This will include seasonal observations, autumn pictures, building a hedgehog house, making a clay sculpture and cooking a simple snack over a fire.
- Year 2 will be focusing on science by identifying and comparing the suitability of a variety of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick, rock, paper and cardboard for particular uses. They will go on a litter pick and name and label the materials found and organise these into groups. They will learn about the types of materials that can be recycled and talk about the reasons we recycle materials. The children will have the opportunity to explore the allotment, dig it over, pull up weeds and learn about the different vegetables that can be grown over winter. They, too, will have the opportunity to cook a simple snack over a fire. When building a den, the children will need to consider and discuss the types of materials to use to make sure that they stay dry and warm.
During the first week, all children learned the rules of Forest School, and explored the outside area doing a scavenger hunt.
