Ramadan

Ramadan in Reception - Monday 3rd March

Today, the children have been exploring the Muslim festival of Ramadan.

Ramadam remembers the month that the Qur’an (the religious text of Islam) was originally revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. Those observing Ramadan will fast every day from dawn until dusk. It is a key element of the Islamic faith. The observance of Ramadam is one of the ‘Five Pillars of Islam’, which lasts for 29 to30 days, from the sighting of one crescent moon to the next.

The children have been learning about the festival, including how the Sawm (fasting) is broken and then decorating and eating Medjool dates.

One of the strands of the Early Years Curriculum is Understanding the World - People, Culture and Communities. Within this strand, children learn similarities and differences between different religious and cultural communities in this country.
