At Marlow C of E Infant School we love to serve our community.  Our children have many opportunities during their time with us to 'live out' our Christian vision and be part of a community that lives up to its foundation as a church school.  We strive to be of service to our community, supporting many causes in practical or financial ways, whether that be local, national or international,

Some of the most recent causes we have supported are shown below.

Mini London Marathon in support of our PFA and the One Can Trust

Every year, the children, teachers and teaching assistants battle sun, rain and wind to run 2.6 miles each. The children (and staff) show a huge amount of resilience in completing this amazing distance. It is a surprisingly long way to go! 

This year we raised an amazing amount of money which was donated to the World Wildlife Fund.

ECO DAY OF ACTION

We have joined together with other schools in Marlow to showcase the environmental work we are doing. Over the first 2 weeks of this half-term, schools will be having an eco-focused day. The main areas we are raising awareness for are water pollution, particularly that of the River Thames, and reducing electricity usage.

We held our Eco Day of Action on Friday, and it was a very exciting day!

The children came to school wearing something blue to represent the water and enjoyed a range of different activities, many of which used the outside learning environment. These activities included learning about water pollution, creating watercolour paintings of nature, scattering wildflower seeds in the nature corridor, making pots from clay and planting sunflower seeds. Once grown, the sunflowers will be given to community groups to raise awareness about the need to create habitats for pollinators.

Great big school clean

In March, we took part in our Great Big School Clean, and we were one of many schools in Marlow who took part in this over the week.

Our Tidy Up Team went litter picking in Seymour Park Recreation Ground with some of the Marlow Wombles and some students from Sir William Borlase Grammar School. The rest of our children went litter picking in the school grounds.

You may have also seen children from the other schools litter picking!

We are hoping to have a big impact on many of the areas near the schools in Marlow and encourage others to help keep Marlow tidy.

World Water day

As a school, we marked World Water Day by wearing something blue, and we also held a special school worship to find out more about why we need to have a World Water Day and the aims of the Sustainable Development Goal 6. (Clean Water and Sanitation for everybody by 2030). We also discussed other ways the children would like to help.

• Save water: Take shorter showers and don’t let the tap run when brushing my teeth, doing dishes and preparing food
• Stop polluting: Don’t put food waste, oils, medicines and chemicals down my toilet or drains
• Eat local: Buy local, seasonal food and look for products made with less water
• Be curious: Find out where my water comes from and how it is shared, and visit a treatment plant to see how my waste is managed
• Protect nature: Plant a tree or create a rain garden – use natural solutions to reduce the risk of flooding and store water
• Build pressure: Write to my elected representatives about budgets for improving water at home and abroad
• Clean up: Take part in clean-ups of my local rivers, lakes, wetlands or beaches

During worship, Year 2 performed a dance called 'Oceans' for the whole school to enjoy. They had been practising for a few weeks, and it was lovely to see the final performance today!

NSPCC Number Day

We had a fantastic Number Day this year and raised £362.25 for the NSPCC!  The children have taken part in lots of number of activities, and they were supported by pupils from Holy Trinity and Sir William Borlase Grammar Schools.
